WHAT'S ON THIS WEEK?

This week may be starting off with a slow, steady pace but the momentum is set to build dramatically by midweek. As hundreds of athletes and enthusiasts converge on two marquee events, every day promises a surge of excitement and top-tier competition.

From 28 February to 2 March, Tashkent will host the annual World Tour event, this year called the OTP Group Tashkent Grand Slam 2025. This tournament sees nearly 250 athletes from 23 nations competing at the highest level. With the tour firing on all cylinders, featuring events almost every week, the quality of competition is unmistakable. While the numbers might seem modest at first glance, the true strength lies in the exceptional caliber of judoka set to grace the tatami. Keep an eye out for our in-depth previews coming midweek, offering expert insights into matchups and standout contenders.

Meanwhile, the sunny shores of Spain will provide the perfect backdrop for the Malaga Junior European Cup 2025, running from 1-2 March. This event will welcome over 350 judoka representing 25 nations, all eager to test their skills and make their mark on the international stage. As these young athletes showcase their potential, the competition promises to be as fierce as it is inspirational, a true testament to the future of judo.

Adding an extra layer of significance to this week, Friday, 28 February, marks International Rare Disease Day. This day is a heartfelt tribute to the adapted judo family, where several members confront and overcome significant daily challenges. Through the discipline and camaraderie of judo, barriers are not only challenged, they are shattered, making room for an inclusive community that warmly embraces everyone as part of the famed “judo family.”
