EJU President László TOTH took the opportunity to personally thank the 150 volunteers at the European Championships Under-23 in Potsdam: “Thank you for your commitment and hospitality. We try to celebrate and stage judo as a sport at each of our prime events. We did this very well in Potsdam. The atmosphere was outstanding on all three days. We felt very comfortable.”
Potsdam is considered a judo and sports stronghold. “You can tell that a lot of sporting expertise is at home here. The city of 185,000 has more than 130 Olympic medallists, including 73 Olympic champions. That speaks for itself,” emphasises László Tóth. “What’s more, the mayor himself is a martial artist, his son practises judo and attends the sports high school. So I would say that it shouldn’t take another 20 years before the next European Judo Championships – in this case U-23 – are held in Germany. Potsdam was a very hard-working, committed host and the infrastructure doesn’t need to shy away from international comparisons. My promise is: We’ll be back soon – to continue the Judo party! It was magical….”
