The Olympic Games is a historic event, we look back to the origins in Greece when it was one of four PanHellenic Games. As the oldest and largest, it was an integral part of the ancient Greek society and derives from it’s location of Olympia.
So of course when the Greek athletes find success in any sport, they find themselves at the epicentre of celebration. On the fifth day of the judo event in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we can officially get the party started thanks to Theodoros TSELIDIS.
The -90kg category houses a wide selection of talented athletes, and among them is Tselidis, who proved his gladiator status today, taking the bronze medal.
In the bronze medal contest, he faced off up and coming success from Team Spain, Tristani MOSAKHLISHVILI, and it was a terrific battle between top athletes. However in this sport, there is always a winner and a loser, and today, the man on top was Tselidis. An ashi guruma attack brought him the waza ari score that Mosakhlishvili couldn’t find a way back from and was forced to settle for fifth place.
Even though Tselidis was well within his right to celebrate this monumental success, he instead demonstrated his judo values and utmost respect to his opponent, well in the understanding of how this loss would feel to him.
