In less than a month, Europe’s finest judoka will converge in Montenegro for the Podgorica European Judo Championships Seniors 2025. As anticipation builds, the entry list continues to grow day by day, revealing the final selections from each participating nation and confirming which elite athletes will step onto the tatami.
Among the many highlights, one of Europe’s judo powerhouses, France, has already confirmed a formidable lineup, including five-time World Champion and Olympic gold medallist Clarisse Agbegnenou (-63kg). From Kosovo, double Olympic medallist Distria Krasniqi (-52kg) is also set to compete, aiming to add another prestigious title to her resume. Other notable names include double Olympic Champion Lukas Krpálek (CZE / +100kg) and Olympic bronze medallist Jorge Fonseca (POR / -100kg), making this year’s entry list extremely competitive.
While the visiting delegations prepare for international travel, the host nation has the unique advantage of competing on home soil. Still, the importance of meticulous preparation remains the same. Ilija Vukotić, head coach of the Montenegrin national judo team, provided insight into the team’s final stages of training and selection:
“The preparations are going very well for our team. Everyone is healthy and very motivated for the start of the Europeans. The final selection will be announced in the next few days. We have been waiting for a couple of competitions to see if someone would get a few more points for our ranking system to make the team. Approximately 95% of the team is known and they have already received their tailored training programme. The last competition for our team will be the European Cup in Dubrovnik for some of them who missed the last competitions, and after that the final push will be at the Tata OTC.”
With just weeks to go, the excitement is palpable. Athletes are entering their final training cycles, fine-tuning techniques and mental focus for one of the most prestigious events on the European judo calendar. The official outline of the event with the full schedule can be found here. Don’t miss a moment, every contest will be streamed live on judotv.com.
