THE ANTHEM HELPED

European Judo Championships Juniors Tallinn 2024

THE ANTHEM HELPED

As chance would have it. As Milan BULAJA (SRB/-100) prepared for his final fight at the European Championships Juniors in Tallinn, the national anthem ‘Boze Pravde’ was played in honour of his teammate Miljan RADULJ (-90). “I was already focussing on my final fight. Then I heard the first bars of our anthem and thought: that’s a good sign, they’ll play it for me today too.”
As in the previous fights, the 19-year-old Serb made short work of the final. “Jakob VARES (EST, note) and I know each other quite well. I’ve already fought him once at the European Championships Cadets and won. I’m a year older than him,” said Milan. After 2:21 minutes, he was crowned the Ippon winner. He was on the mat for a total of 6:52 minutes for his four victories (net). No-one has been faster in Tallinn during these three competition days yet.
Reward for the Junior European Championship title: “That suits me very well. The victory means I’ll be included in the Olympic programme and can train even better.” That sounds like a threat to Jakob Vares and his other competitors.
