Prime events are such a huge focus right now, and Tallinn will play host to the Junior European Championships in September, but first they will give us a little teaser on the Estonian coastline with the 2024 European Open.
A total of 26 nations will be settling in Tallinn over the 6th and 7th of July, led by Miriam BUTKEREIT (GER) who will also be heading to the Paris Olympic Games in a matter of three weeks. There looked to be a potential injury for the German athlete, however a little rest seems to have her back fighting fit and a quick refresh in the Open event will have her ready to compete in the Olympic Games.
Though not competing over this weekend, it is certainly worth mentioning that the only athlete to qualify for the Paris Games from Estonia is Klen Kristofer KALJULAID, who took an impressive gold medal in the 2023 edition of this event. It is a family affair here in Estonia, with their Olympic athlete also holding title of ‘son of the president’, Kaido KALJULAID.
Estonia’s Olympic hopeful may not be present this time around, but the nation has a 24-strong team, including Karl PRIILINN TURK in the +100kg category, who claimed bronze last year. Joining him in the men’s heavyweight category is last weeks Cadet European Champion, Marek-Adrian MASAK, who looks like a certain future champion.
