STRONG WEEKEND FOR LATVIA JUDO

The Riga European Senior Judo Cup for took place in Riga, bringing together athletes from 23 countries. The tournament became a significant event in the sports calendar, gathering some of Europe’s strongest judokas on the tatami.

On the first day of the competition, Latvia’s national team leader, Anthony DE ANGELIS, showcased a high level of skill, securing the gold medal. This victory confirmed his status as one of the best judokas in the country.

On the second day of the tournament, Latvian judokas added two bronze medals to their tally. Ronalds PLOSTNIEKS (-81 kg) and Daniels GROMOVS (-100 kg) both claimed bronze in their respective weight categories.

The presence of the President of the Latvian Olympic Committee added special significance to the tournament, as he emphasized the high organizational level of the event. This success was made possible thanks to the professional standards set by the European Judo Union (EJU) and the coordinated work of the sports and refereeing sectors. The tournament was officiated by top-level referees, ensuring fair and objective judging.

The Riga European Judo Cup once again proved that Latvia is capable of hosting international-level competitions, providing excellent conditions for both athletes and spectators. Anthony De Angelis’ victory is a significant achievement for Latvian judo, inspiring the next generation of athletes to strive for world-class results.

Such tournaments are particularly important for the Baltic countries as a preparation stage, considering the upcoming European Championships in Podgorica. They give athletes the opportunity to test their strength, refine tactical approaches, and prepare for major international competitions.
