The city of Rijeka received the recognition of European Judo City. It is a prestigious award as only three cities per year can claim the title. During the opening ceremony of the Rijeka Junior European Cup 2024 and in presence of the President of the Croatian Judo Federation, Dr Sanda Corak and Vice President of the European Judo Union, Mr Hrvoje Lindi the city was officially awarded.
The award was given due to the long-term support of the city of Rijeka to various judo activities such as the organisation of the country’s first ever Grand Prix, the European University Games, the European Kata Championship and the implementation of the judo in school project. The city which celebrates 65 years of continues work accepted the recognition with pleasure and pride.
The award was presented on behalf of the European Judo Union by EJU Vice-President Mr. Hrvoje Lindi whilst the honour of receiving the award on behalf of the city of Rijeka was completed by Head of Department of Education and Schooling, Culture, Sports and Youth, Mrs. Iva Erceg and General Secretary of Rijeka Sports Association, Dr. Slavisa Bradic.

As per the event itself, Italy heavily dominated finishing with 5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals. Victory performances were delivered by Pietro Andreini (-60kg), Alessio De Luca (-66kg), Ilaria Finestrone (-52kg), Michela Terranova (-57kg) and Sara Corbo (-63kg). The host nation shined with a final 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals. A three-day training camp will follow the tournament. The next junior European cup will be held in Malaga from 18-19 May.
