The 74th Ordinary Congress in Slovenia traditionally concluded with the Gala Dinner on Saturday evening. Along with representatives of 46 European National Federations and EJU partners, the European Judo Union also had the honour to welcome guests from all over the world in Ljubljana. Such as the President of the Pan American Judo Confederation, Carlos ZEGARRA PRESSER, who attended the Congress of another Continental Union for the first time.

For EJU President Dr. László TÓTH this is yet another example of the change in atmosphere he was experiencing in the last months:
The EJU Congress showed us in the best possible way the strength of judo friendship that overcomes all obstacles and closely connects judoka from various destinations all over the world. I am glad to see us all united here at this solemn celebration of European Judo. Thank you to the President of the National Federation of Slovenia, Mr. Lovrencij GALUF, for hosting us. It is an exceptional honour, that we can end this successful year in such a beautiful way.
The Olympic Champions Urška ŽOLNIR JUGOVAR (London 2012), now EJU Sports Director, and Tina TRSTENJAK (Rio de Janeiro 2016) were extremely proud that the Congress of the European Judo Union was held in Slovenia:
This is the special promotion of the country, it’s not just us. We spread the values of judo over Slovenia and abroad.
The two Slovenian Judo heroes were also among the persons who were awarded during the evening. But in case of Tina TRSTENJAK this was only as a stand-in:
I’m incredibly happy that I could receive the award on behalf of our coach Dr Marjan FABJAN, who unfortunately couldn’t be here with us today. But I’m very proud that he was honoured this way.
