GYŐR'S FINAL SHOW OF THE YEAR

Györ Cadet European Cup 2024

GYŐR'S FINAL SHOW OF THE YEAR

Győr proudly received the European Judo City 2024 award earlier this year, a prestigious honor that recognises not only the city’s commitment to hosting high-level judo tournaments but also its role in promoting the sport across Europe. This accolade reflects Győr’s dedication to providing a platform for judoka of all levels, from local talent to international champions, enhancing its reputation as a hub for judo excellence.

This weekend, the city is set to close the year’s impressive judo calendar by hosting the annual Cadet European Cup 2024. Nearly 600 judoka from 28 nations have gathered in Győr, making final preparations for an intense weekend of competition. This tournament serves as a key opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills, gain experience, and earn valuable points in the rankings that they can utilise on in the coming year.

Among the top contenders in Győr is Lucie RULLIER (FRA), the tournament’s top seed and current world-ranked leader, who has already made a name for herself by securing the 2024 Cadet World Championship title in the -70kg category. Competing alongside her is Arkadii SAMOILOV (UKR), the second highest ranked judoka in the event, who narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the Cadet World Championships earlier this year. Samoilov is set to lead the competition in the -90kg category.

Local fans will be cheering for Hungary’s own VAS Mira, the highest ranked Hungarian judoka in the tournament. Vas has built an impressive resume, having secured multiple Cadet European Cup titles and placing 5th at the 2024 Cadet European Championships. Competing in the -52kg category, Vas will be aiming to use her home advantage and experience to dominate her category and secure a podium finish.

Adding an extra layer of diversity to the event, international athletes from far-flung nations such as Australia, Canada, Kyrgyzstan and Togo have also made the journey to Győr, demonstrating the global appeal of the sport and the far-reaching reputation of the Cadet European Cup. These overseas competitors bring unique styles and techniques that promise to add excitement to the tournament.

For those unable to attend in person, all the action will be broadcast live on judotv.com, allowing judo enthusiasts around the world to follow the thrilling bouts and support their favourite athletes from afar.
