Paweł DRZYMAL (POL) was looking to double up on his success this month after a win in the Ljubljana European Open, and battled his way in to the -81kg final in front of the home crowd in Warsaw. After an exhausting semi final, he took a relatively short break before the final block where he faced TOTH Botond (HUN). On a few occasions Drzymal found himself close to securing osae komi, but Toth worked just as hard to defend. Unfortunately, another golden score was on the horizon, but the Polish fans were spared the tension as Drzymal scored yuko on the buzzer, driving across the body for o soto gari and just clipping his opponents foot.

Gemma Maria GOMEZ ANTONA (ESP) met Clarice RIBEIRO (BRA) in the final of the -48kg category. The pair went in to golden score as neither were able to find a way to get a score on the board, but with just over one minute in to extra time, Gomez managed to use the momentum of her opponent and huge rotation to throw with harai makikomi and earn a second continental open gold medal.

In the -90kg category, Tato GRIGALASHVILI (GEO) had all gripped during the tournament, almost guaranteeing an explosive performance, and he didn’t disappoint. In the final Tigo RENES (NED) was his final opponent, and it was a very keen start from the Dutch athlete, Grigalashvili seemingly biding his time in the first half of the contest, setting up with ashi waza before scoring waza ari with drop seoi nage. A minute later, Grigalashvili attacked his very tall opponent again with a drop seoi, though lost control, scoring only yuko. Renes had nothing to lose in this head to head, and though he gave a great attempt, the experience of the World Champion and Olympic medallist won out.

Astride GNETO (FRA) was certainly a favourite in the -52kg category given her experience but she wasn’t given an easy ride by her opponents, instead enduring long golden scores and in the final against Tatum KEEN (GBR), her eventual win came from a single yuko score earned by ko uchi gari.
The -100kg final was over before it started as Iosif SIMIN (ISR) was unable to compete in the final and so the win went to Aristos MICHAEL (CYP).

The -57kg category final between Ariana RODRIGUEZ SALVADOR (ESP) and Alya DE CARVALHO (FRA) was intense and very exciting to witness, the first score coming from De Carvalho’s huge uchi mata. Though Rodriguez managed to level the score, De Carvalho gave an extra push in the final minute, building on her attacks until a drop sode scored the yuko she needed to pass her opponent and take the gold medal.
Yakiv KHAMMO (UKR) and Stephan HEGYI (AUT) concluded the Warsaw European Open 2025, the first half of the contest was mainly a battle of the grips, but the mid point, Khammo committed to an o soto gari that Hegyi could not step off and he threw for ippon and the +100kg gold.
