Throughout all European Judo Union events, from the Hopes Tournament to Senior European Championships, Adapted Judo Get Togethers to the Olympic level camps, the EJU is committed to promoting the judo values as a way of life.
To ensure that all judoka have a positive and developmental environment, a ‘Code of Conduct’ has been pledged, it is a framework for ethical, respectful and safe behaviour for athletes, coaches and parents, and all participants at the EJU Hopes Tournaments, cadet and junior level events, and applies not only to competition, but to the centralised training camps and any other affiliated activities within the EJU system.
This ‘Code of Conduct’ looks at the weight management aspect of the sport and how it should be healthily addressed at all ages to commit to the well-being of the individual, promoting their health and development instead of inhibiting it.
The following sections address the ways in which athletes, coaches and parents should conduct themselves, looking at the judo values that are embedded in our sport, as well as the correct behaviours as professionals on and off the tatami. Due to the variety of ages in these events, and now that the Hopes events are inclusive of U13, safeguarding is again a highlighted priority to look after our most vulnerable judoka.

It is also important that we address all stakeholders, and this is inclusive of parents and supporters who without, these young judoka may never have the experience or opportunity, and with that, the European Judo Union can offer constructive and positive education for the development of children.
Adherence to the ‘Code of Conduct’ is mandatory for all participants at all EJU events, including competitions, training camps and all other activities organised by the European Judo Union. Violating the code can result in verbal and written warnings, temporary or permanent suspension form participation, expulsion from tournaments or any events organised, endorsed or supported by the EJU and event referral to external authorities.
It is of the utmost importance to the European Judo Union that the sport provides a safe and professional place for young people to develop in a sport that is loved and cherished by so many and give opportunity to all. The EJU is committed to the development and adherence of the judo values and to mirror Jigoro Kano’s wishes, create a better society.
