How important this weekends tournament is for Bulgaria is shown by the fact that the European Open was visited today by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Bulgaria, Vesela LECHEVA. Five-time World Champion in shooting, silver medal winner in the 50m rifle in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and 10m air rifle in 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
EJU President Dr László TÓTH presented to the Minister the Jigoro KANO plaque for her exceptional contribution and development of judo sport in Bulgaria.
Last year Sofia hosted our flagship event in Sofia, this year another European Open whose points contribute to the Olympic Games in Paris:
It’s very important for Bulgaria to host this kind of competition, such as this European Open. This is a great honour for us to be a hosting country and thank you for the confidence and support from the International Judo Federation and European Judo Union, also supporting our National Federation it’s a great honour for us. We wish good luck to each competitor, to have their chance to compete, to have their goals and aims to achieve.
