Two medals for Croatia at the Poreč Millennium Team European Cadet Cup! After a busy weekend in the sports hall “Žatika”, we welcomed the first medals, and all the credits goes to Ana BEŠKER (JC “Solin”) and Antea AJDUKOVIĆ (JC “Pujanke” – Split).

In the fight for the bronze medal in the -70kg category, Bešker defeated Romanian Isabel BOB by ippon after a minute and a half of fighting, and she also commented on her first impressions after leaving the tatami: “It’s good, but I think I could have made it to the final. I did mistake in the semi-final, I was leading on wazari and then I lost by ippon and I knew what my opponent was doing, it could have been better. I hope it will be better at the European Championship.”

In the category in which 36 competitors fought today, Bešker recorded three wins and one loss in the preliminary part of the competition. She defeated Italian Claudia MARCHIO, Spanish Andrea SANCHEZ VALLE and Canadian Charlie THIBAULT, losing in the semi-finals to Giorgia GRASSI (ITA).

Another bronze medal was secured by Split’s Ajduković, who celebrated in the +70kg category against Austrian Michaela HOELLWART with two wazari: “I am delighted, it great to win something here in Croatia, in front of all the fans, in front of all my colleagues, and it is a great honour for me. I expected to be in the fight for a medal, and so did my coach and colleagues, considering how I did in the previous ECup. Now I have fulfilled my expectations,” concluded the judoka from Pujanka.

In the elimination matches, she defeated Una MRAKOVIĆ (SRB), Carlotta SCHIAVON (ITA) and Nikola ZAREBU (POL), losing to Kira BAHMET from Ukraine. The Polish national team finished first in the overall standings with four gold and two silver medals. The Hungarian team came in second, while the Serbian team finished third. Croatia finished in 16th place with two bronze medals, one fifth place and one seventh place.

Another great judo competition in Croatia, 813 competitors, 37 countries, 5 continents. After the tournament held in SD „Žatika“, the competitors move to the „Intersport“ hall in Zelena laguna where they stay for a three-day training camp that will take place on more than 1500m2 of tatami. Competitors under the age of 18 can look forward to the European Championships held in Skopje at the end of June, as well as the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF).
