“The 31 Olympic medals in Paris – eight of them gold – speak for themselves: we are the clear number one in sport. No fewer than 16 European member countries won medals in Paris. In addition, there were eight European World Championship titles,” stated EJU President Dr László Tóth, who was elected for a further four years, at the 76th Ordinary Congress in Budapest. “In recent years, we have supported a total of 71 top athletes from 24 nations. One million euros went to our member associations each year. Our mission for the next four years is clear: we are only happy when our 51 member associations are satisfied. We want to continue and further strengthen this close cooperation. That is our core mission.” In his first congress statement after the election, the President commented on a number of topics: Dr László Tóth on…
…some of the most important priorities of his second term of office: “In order to become even stronger, we have expanded the Executive Committee to include representatives from major judo nations such as France, Georgia, Italy and Spain. This will give us even more clout and expertise. Secondly, the registration head office will be relocated to better manage the organisation’s operational and administrative tasks.”
… important achievements of the last two years: “We have established a number of new formats such as the Small Nations European Championships, the European Judo Championships Open, the Adaptive Judo Get Together Tour, Under-15 Judo Hopes Cup and the Kata for All Programme. All these projects have been very well received.”
… the secret of the EJU’s success: “60 per cent of coaches who successfully complete the IJF Academy come from EJU member countries. This expertise pays off in the long term. All the statistics prove that.”
… new joint approaches: ‘In addition to competitive sport, we also want to focus even more on the next generation. The Kids Camp as part of the European Judo Championships Seniors was a resounding success. We will continue along this path.”
