The judo family is shocked by the loss of our dear colleague, friend Francesco SOLDANO (ITA). Nothing pointed to this outcome, dear Francesco was with us a few days ago at the European Cadet Championship where he participated as a referee. He was always smiling and was energetic.
Unfortunately, Francesco was not feeling well on Sunday morning, and upon return to Italy, he left us last night at the age of 58.

We were heartbroken by this morning’s terrible news, an irreplaceable loss for the European Judo Family. Our international referee, respected, loved and liked by all members of the judo family, Francesco Soldano, left us forever last night. At the weekend in Sofia, we worked together for the success of the European Cadet Championships, he refereed to everyone’s satisfaction. Keeping his memory forever alive, I will initiate that the Italian Judo Federation declares one of the European Judo Tour tournaments in Italy as his memorial event.
My deepest condolences to his loved ones and everyone involved. May he rest in peace.

Any expression of condolence will be insufficient to comprehend the passing away of our colleague and friend, the IJF International Referee Mr.Francesco Soldano. The very moment of his passing away, essentially during the European Cadet Championship in Sofia, adds maximum tragedy.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Refereeing community.
International referee, born in Rome in 1965, he was in Sofia, Bulgaria to referee at the Cadet European Championships. He felt ill during the competition and, out of caution, Francesco returned immediately, going directly to the Pertini Hospital. He leaves behind his wife and a son.
Rest in peace Francesco Soldano (October 1, 1965 – June 30, 2024)
