A SUMMARY FROM A GOLDEN EYE

Olympic Games Judo 2024

A SUMMARY FROM A GOLDEN EYE

Judo in Kosovo has gained significant recognition, particularly due to the outstanding achievements of its athletes on the international stage. The country’s success in judo is a source of national pride and has helped to elevate the sport’s profile within Kosovo. Their living legend, Olympic Champion, Majlinda Kelmendi, was on site in Paris, but for the first time at a Summer Games, she was sitting on the sidelines and yet she remained in action. Coaching vs competing was a different experience.

I was not easy at all but I enjoyed it a lot. I actually felt like I was going to fight, I had a lot of stress but I managed it good I think.

When Laura won I had the same feelings like I won the Olympic medal for my self. Laura could do more but she had too much pressure, and still its okay, she won a medal.

As per the team recap, where do I start… With the sad part, as Loriana finished her career. She came from Switzerland to Kosovo 8 years ago and won European and world medal for us, becoming one of the best athletes in the history of Kosovo and she participated two times at the Olympics.

Overall, I am very happy with everyone’s performance. Both Nora and Lori were injured three months before the Games so it was hard for them to prepare well. Akil was just amazing and it is a pity that he did not win a medal.

Distria was so confident, as always, and with that I would like to thank the big boss, Toni, for trusting me and letting me sit in the chair to coach the athletes, I feel blessed. Thanks to him, Kosovo now has 5 Olympic medals and all of them are from judo. We are full of joy and gratitude.

Judo in Kosovo is a thriving sport that has brought the country international acclaim. The achievements of its judoka are a testament to their hard work, talent, and the effective support system in place, making judo a significant part of Kosovo’s sports culture and identity.
