A MIX OF OLD, NEW AND CURRENT

Another edition of the European Judo Cup will take place this weekend with the destination being Bratislava. Over 450 competitors from 39 different countries are heading to the Slovakia.

Looking through the entry of the Hungarian team you will see a big mixture of young, new and old. The delegation made of 37 athletes with European Bronze medallist, GERCSAK Szabina, who will be heading to Bratislava straight off with a strong training camp in her bag. European Champion and 4x World medallist, MESZAROS Anett looks on another return, this time in the -78kg category. 2017 Cadet World Champion, VARGA Brigitta continues to strengthen her skills in the -57kg category. The male part of the team also made of youngsters and more experienced.

Beka GVINIASHVILI (GEO)

Some of the elites are going to take the chance this weekend for a last test ahead of the World Judo Championships 2018. Namely, 2018 European bronze medallist, Milica NIKOLIC (SRB); Pan-American Bronze medallist, Hannah MARTIN (USA); European bronze medallist, Bernadette GRAF (AUT); European and World Champion, Avtandili TCHRIKISHVILI (GEO); European bronze medallist, Beka GVINIASHVILI (GEO) and World bronze medallist, Ramadan DARWISH (EGY). The tournament will take place at Sports Hall Hant Arena and scheduled to begin at 10:00am local time. Good luck to all participants.

The host nation will seek success with the total of 20 judoka, including European Judo Open bronze medallist, Viktoria MAJOROSOVA, who will be on stage at the -57kg category. The highest number of entries displayed by Poland with 47 judoka. Amongst the mass is Daria POGORZELEC, whom not long ago opted down to the -70kg category picking up a bronze at Warsaw European Judo Open 2018. More high profiled Polish athletes will join the team such as Arleta PODOLAK and Damian SZWARNOWIECKI
