Russia was the great winner of the first day of the European Veteran Championships on Thursday. The Russian equipe won eleven of the 26 available gold medals. Six countries jointly won 12 medals. With a team of 39 judoka Russia is well represented. The European Veteran Championships in Porec, Croatia, have more than 150 participants of 24 countries.
At the first day the age group 50-59 years started the competition.
The strongest category is the U73kg M6 division (55-59y) with 15 participants where Jean-Luc Moreau (FRA) won the final against Czech fighter Bohumir Sarsoun.
Italian Pietro Melone won the M5 U90 (50-54y) category, also strong with 14 participants. The Italian was the winner against Farhad Rajabli (AZE).
Participants must have a minimum age of 30 years and had not been participating in any international competition for a minimum of 2 years, such as World Championships, World Cups, Europeans or the Olympic Games if they start to compete in the Veterans World- or European Championships.
At the second day of the Championships age group from 30-39 years will compete for both men as women. On Saturday the age group 40-49 will start and the last day is the men and women’s team event.
