Whilst not quite as certain as Riner in the +100kg category, the likely destination for the gold medal in the +78kg category is either China, Japan or Cuba, these three being the only countries to have won the women’s super-heavyweight division. In the driving seat will be reigning Olympic champion Idalys ORTIZ (CUB) followed closely by current world champion YU Song (CHN). The Japanese meanwhile were spoilt for choice and have opted for YAMABE Kanae ahead of INAMORI Nami and TACHIMOTO Megumi. Outside of the “powerhouse trio” look for Kayra SAYIT (TUR), Emilie ANDEOL (FRA) and Svitlana IAROMKA (UKR) to contend for a medal.
