As part of the commemorations of the 50th Anniversary of the Portuguese Judo Federation, a book entitled “50 years of the Portuguese Judo Federation” was recently published by this federation on the 20th December 2009.
This book is a Portuguese Judo Federation edition and author is the journalist Rita Matos, who did an extensive research on the development of Judo in Portugal, since the beginning to present days, based on the testimony of some the main characters of the Portuguese Judo History.
The purpose of the literary piece of historical nature is to compile all the greatest moments of this sport in Portugal and to honor those who contributed to its development, particularly the leaders, athletes, coaches and referees who it made possible to learn judo in Portugal, to organize the first competitions, to win the first medals and to reach the standards of national judo we currently face.
More than an historical overview, this book aims to honor and portray the greatest national athletes this country has had in these past recent years, and so it is divided into eight fundamental chapters such as The Origins of Judo, The Appearance of Judo in Portugal, The Birth of the Portuguese Judo Federation, Female Judo in Portugal, The 80´s – a decade of expansion, The 90´s – Turning point of Portuguese Judo, Sidney 2000 – The Olympic Medal of Nuno Delgado and The New Generation of Champions.
