The third in a series of four Seminars for clubs was held in the Czech Republic this weekend.
The first part of the EJU seminar with Hirotaka Okada took place on Saturday in Brno, Czech Republic. The seminar was attended mainly by the coaches from the eastern part of the Czech Republic. However also some coaches from Austria and Slovakia took part in the seminar. Okada-sensei explained and demonstrated the fundamental points of the judo techniques suitable for the children at the age of 8–12 years. He emphasised the importance of the safety during the training and therefore the first part of the seminar was dedicated to the methods of proper ukemi teaching. Then Okada-sensei continued with the basic judo techniques in tachi-waza and stressed the necessity of correct kuzushi to perform any technique well. Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi, Ashi-barai, O-soto-gari, O-uchi-gari, Tai-otoshi, Uchi-mata and Seoi-nage in basic versions were demonstrated by Okada-sensei. He then continued with Ne-waza techniques and explained the proper way to incorporate ne-waza into the training of the kids. Fundamental points of osae-komi-waza were demonstrated. Okada-sensei showed the most suitable turnovers and again emphasised the importance of the safety during the training. He gave a short lecture about the methodology of the kids judo training and answered several questions related to the topic. At the end of the seminar Okada-sensei demonstrated some of his tokui-waza. The seminar with Okada-sensei continues in Prague on Sunday and coaches from the central part of the Czech Republic will attend the seminar. The total number of the participants attending the seminars is 250. The Czech judo federation is very much grateful to host such an event in the Czech Republic and believes that the seminar will help to improve the work of the couches in the country.
