During the European Judo Championships in Budapest the 4th European Science Symposium of judo was organized by the Education Commission of the European Judo Union. This annual exhibition always takes places at European Championships so that exhibitors can showcase their studies to the public and to the jury of the Education sector of the EJU.
The exhibition of all posters was held at the ring of the stadium where many people crossed the posters.
During the third day of the Championships the exhibitors explained their studies to the participants and interested people, among them some current athletes.
The winning study was made by Fabio Capelletti (ITA) regarding the Thermo-elastic effect on different mats after body impact in JUDO Throws.
Capelletti studied in detail the relationship between the tatami and the judoka . Although this is extremely important, it is often overlooked. The aim of this study is to analyse the different thermo-elastic responses of different tatami under impact load obtained by different judo throws. The work was carried out taking infrared thermal images and by analysis of temperature profiles of the impact areas produced by Uke after the fall onto tatami.
The second prize was for the study of Luis Monteiro (POR): Effect of fatigue on strength performance.
This study aims to determine the effect of fatigue on arm extensor muscles upon power, velocity, strength and rate of force development (RFD) output levels, throughout a simulate contest in judo athletes.
The second place was a tie between Monteiro and Carlos Pablos Abella ( SPA) who tested Hormones Demands of Judo Training. Using a biochemical analysis in saliva, to identify the response of testosterone (T) and cortisol (C) on the application of a specific test for Judo.
Prize summary:
1st place: Thermo-elastic effect on different mats after body impact in JUDO Throws, Fabio Capelletti (ITA)
2nd place: Effect of fatigue on strength performance, Luís Monteiro (POR)
