A WARM UP FOR THE BIG CHALLENGE IN MAY

Author: Latvia Judo

On February 22, the European Veterans Cup took place in Riga, bringing together 72 judokas from 17 countries. Latvia was well represented, with a strong presence of local athletes showcasing their skill and determination.

This year’s event was particularly special as it also featured a Ne-Waza tournament, with 21 participants competing in groundwork-only matches. Ne-Waza is gaining popularity in Latvia, and many athletes expressed their enthusiasm for this format, highlighting it as a great challenge that complements traditional judo.

The European Veterans Cup in Riga served as a preparatory stage for the upcoming European Championship, which will be held in the Latvian capital in May. Several participants have already confirmed their plans to return to Riga to test their strength once again in both the veterans’ competition and the growing Ne-Waza discipline.

A big thank you to all the participants for their dedication and to the spectators for their support—see you in May at the European Championship!
