In a historic moment for Serbian judo, Mr Ivan TODOROV has been re-elected as president of the Judo Federation of Serbia during a regular electoral assembly held at the ceremonial hall of SC Šumice. With unanimous support from the assembly delegates, Todorov will lead the federation for another four years, marking a continuation of his impactful leadership and dedication to the sport.
Mr Todorov, a distinguished former national team member and the first Serbian to be elected vice-president of the European Judo Union, is widely regarded as a driving force behind the development of judo in Serbia. His re-election reflects the confidence the judo community has in his vision and strategic direction.
Joining President Todorov at the helm of the organisation are key figures who bring expertise and dedication to their roles. Professor Dr. Milovan BRATIC was appointed chairman of the management board, while Stojan VUJKO will serve as vice president. The board also includes respected members such as Sokol UKIC, Milan MIJALKOVIC, Miroljub NICIC, Svetlana Vajnberger MIHELJCIC, Milan SRDANOVIC, Dragan SPASIC, Marko NIKOLIC, and Nenad ROKVIC. Goran VUCELJA will continue his role as secretary general whilst the supervisory board will include Rajka STOILJKOVIC, Dejan MUZDEKA, and Milenko KRAJINOVIC.
Todorov highlighted the Federation’s remarkable progress over the years, particularly in international competition. From having no Olympic qualifiers in 2008 to earning medals and top placements in Paris, Serbian judo has witnessed a significant transformation. Key accomplishments include a European bronze medal in the mixed team event and similar achievements by junior competitors. He further remarked;
It is an exceptional honour to be re-elected but also a great responsibility. Our progress from no Olympic qualifications in 2008 to competing for medals and achieving top placements speaks volumes about our efforts. We are now entering a new cycle, aiming for success at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Mr Todorov also expressed gratitude to judo veterans, coaches, and clubs, particularly those advancing inclusive judo. The federation’s participation in projects by the European Judo Union and the International Judo Federation has yielded significant results, strengthening Serbia’s reputation in this vital area.
Looking ahead, Mr Todorov announced his ambitions to host several high-profile events and initiatives in Serbia, which by, he intends to cement Serbia’s position as a hub for elite judo and provide opportunities for both, athletes and officials, to excel on the international stage. It is clear that the Serbian Judo Federation is ready to build on its achievements and embrace new opportunities for growth and success. The federation will continue its mission to elevate Serbian judo on both, the competitive and organisational fronts and to inspire the next generation of judoka.
