MAINTAL FOR THE FIRST TIME

Maintal Kata Tournament 2024

MAINTAL FOR THE FIRST TIME

The last European Kata tournament before the highly anticipated World Championships Kata 2024 is scheduled to take place in Maintal, Germany, this weekend. Cadet, junior, and senior contenders will have their final opportunity to showcase not only their favourite kata but with that their meticulously practiced techniques. A total of 140 participants from 13 countries have registered, making this event a crucial stepping stone for competitors aiming for success on the world stage.

Among the various kata styles, the Katame-no-Kata group has received the highest number of entries, reflecting its popularity and the strength of its competitors. Although the multiple-time European and World Champions in Ju-no-Kata, the renowned German duo of Wolfgang Dax-Romswinkel and Ulla Loosen will not be competing in Maintal, the event still promises an exceptionally competitive field. Their absence does not overshadow the depth of talent, with many other top performers vying to make their mark before the world championships.

This year’s EJU Kata tournament marks the first time the event will be held in Maintal. Given Germany’s rich tradition in judo and the strong team supporting its Kata sector, expectations are high for both the quality of performances and the organisation of the tournament. Germany’s reputation for excellence in judo competition is well-known and this event aims to uphold that standard.

In addition to the competition, the tournament will also feature an exam and seminar for kata judges, further enhancing the educational and professional opportunities available to those involved in the sport. With the countdown to the World Championships Kata 2024 well underway, Maintal will serve as a pivotal stage for competitors looking to fine-tune their skills and gain momentum for the global event.
