European Week of Judo Values 2024

SAVE THE DATE!

Mark your calendars for the European Week of Judo Values 2024, one of the most important events in both European sport and the judo community. Join us from all over the globe without having to leave your dojo between 23-30 September 2024, a date which coincides with the European Week of Sport.

This year’s theme, “Find Your Balance”, signals an exciting new direction, focusing on the importance of balance, not only on the mat but otherwise. The week promises to be a dynamic celebration of the core values of judo with a particular focus on promoting a more inclusive and balanced environment for all participants. The 2024 initiative is particularly concerned with addressing the gender disparities that currently exist in judo participation across Europe. In many countries, female participation in judo is only between 20% and 30%.

A Symbol of Balance and Inclusion

To reflect this new focus, the European Week of Judo Values has introduced an updated logo that visually embodies the new theme. The logo has evolved from its previous red and black colour scheme – colours that symbolised the intensity and passion of the “Play for Peace” initiative from last year – to a more refined combination of navy blue and gold.

The core symbol of the logo, a circle composed of three elements, has been retained from the previous design, maintaining a sense of continuity. However, the meaning behind these elements has been updated to reflect the new theme. The three figures now represent the key agents of influence within the judo community: Parents, Coaches, and Education/Health professionals. These groups play a crucial role in nurturing young judoka and ensuring that a balanced and inclusive environment is cultivated.

The circular design continues to symbolise the origins and traditions of judo, while also emphasising unity and the interconnectedness of the judo community. Positioned above the words “Find your Balance,” the symbol appears to float, visually reinforcing the idea of equilibrium.

The logo’s typography has been carefully chosen to complement the theme of balance and inclusion. The primary typeface is rounded and soft, with connected letters that symbolise the way judo brings people together. This approachable and friendly design invites everyone, regardless of gender, to be part of the judo community and to embrace its values in everyday life.

As we prepare for the European Week of Judo Values 2024, we invite everyone in the judo community to get involved in this important initiative.
