- The first ever Olympic champion in the -57kg category (then -56kg) was Miriam Blasco (ESP). In fact, Europe has dominated this weight category at the Summer Games on all but three occasions.
- Hidayat Heydarov (AZE) is currently the best male judoka in the world, not only in the -73kg category but across all men’s weight categories with a total of 8798 points.
- Heydarov is listed behind Christa Deguchi (CAN) who is currently the highest ranked judoka across both gender, therefore, in the world. She earned a sum of 9690 points.
- Paris 2024 will be the 4th Olympic Games for Lasha Shavdatuashvili (GEO). He won gold at London 2012, bronze at Rio 2016 and silver at Tokyo 2020. Some just call him the G.O.A.T.
- There are 4 senior world champions and two Olympic champions competing in the -57kg category.
Judo made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games in 1964, and Paris 2024 will mark its 60th anniversary as an Olympic sport.
