It’s a busy weekend for both junior and senior judoka over the 15th and 16th of June, the latter will be competing in the Podcetrtek Senior European Cup 2024 which has become quite the international affair.
There are 353 judoka from 32 nations, 23 of whom are from the host nation of Slovenia. From outside of Europe, the EJU will be welcoming delegations from Canada, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Africa and Uganda, as well as the IJF Refugee Team.
The Senior Cup event will be a tough one for all, but certain names will be coming in with momentum from the most recent European Open in Madrid including Sarah ISCHT (GER) in the -48kg category. After winning the Dubrovnik Senior European Cup, the 24 year-old, took her first continental open medal, and a gold at that. She will be joined by the Japanese duo entered; 30 year-old SAKAGUCHI Hitomi and 24 year-old MORI Yua, however the category lead is KOSZEGI Rebeka Rita (HUN).
Hungary will be leading numerous categories this weekend in their neighbouring nation; KELLER Rebeka (-52kg), VARGA Brigitta (-63kg) and SZEGEDI Daniel (-73kg). From Slovenia, their top hope will be in the +100kg category from Vito DRAGIC, who also won the event in 2019.
