European Judo Championships Veterans 2024

FINLAND CLAIMS FIRST EVER EUROPEAN TEAM TITLE

The final day of the European Judo Championships Veterans Sarajevo 2024 showcased an action packed day. Up on celebrating the remaining Ne-waza European Championships in the morning, all team gathered to complete the last element of this tournament, the team event.

Whilst there was no surprise in seeing Italy (TF50), France (TF30), Germany (TM50) and Georgia (TM30) winning gold, Finland delivered the unexpected, winning the Mixed Team 40 event in Sarajevo, establishing a historic moment for their country. Their final against Georgia ended in tie, meaning an additional random draw had to be conducted to see which category will need to re-match. When the -70kg appeared on the screen, the Finnish team had bursted into celebration instantly as they knew they had just won gold due to a gap in that division for the Georgian team. Team member, Loredana Lari expressed her thoughts;

The gold was actually the goal and I am not only saying because we won but we really prepared for this event. I think everybody underestimated us today. Our sensei also worked hard for us, did all the paperwork, trainings, everything. He is the best coach. We are very happy to be able to win the gold medal today.

Congratulations to all medallist.
