Latvia claimed top spot on the overall medal table at the Riga Veteran European Cup 2024 with eight golden, seven silver and two bronze medal performances. Ukraine followed with a three-three-one count whilst Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Poland took two victories a piece. Eight single glories were exhibited by Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Lithuania, Norway, Romania, and Serbia.
As per the host all eyes were focusing on Sydney Olymipic bronze medallist and the President of the Latvian Judo Federation, Mr Vsevolods ZELONIJS as he indulged in the opportunity of competing again, and to do that on home soil, must have been incredible. Read more about it here.
As per the outsiders, seven nations ended with a 100% success rate. Georgia entered two judoka. David UDZILAURI won the M3 -81kg whilst teammate Giorgi MODEBADZE outclassed the M3 -100kg category. Single entries were on offer by Italy’s Thomas TANDOI (M2 -100kg), Lithuania’s Laimonas KIVILIUS (M4 -81kg), Norway’s Sergio MANSILLA GARCIA (M1 -66kg), Romania’s Lena STEREA (F5 -57kg), Serbia’s Slavko STANISIC (M8 -100kg) and Sweden’ Jorge JOFRE (M8 -81kg); all of whom came away with individual victories, respectively.
