Eteri LIPARTELIANI (-57/GEO) is ranked No. 8 in the world. But the 24-year-old had never won a major (Seniors) title before. Her time had finally come at the European Championships Open in Pristina.
“When I beat Olympic champion Nora Gjakova in the semi-finals, I knew today was my day. Everything actually went perfectly for me. The longer the day went on, the better I got. I had no problems in the final (against Timna Nelson Levy/ISR) either,” beamed Eteri. “This is my first gold medal at a major event – this medal has a special significance for me. Now I also want to win gold in Paris at the 2024 Olympic Games. I know I have what it takes.”
The newly crowned European champion is using the prize money of 55,000 euros “for my new home. I can really use the money there.”
