Three of the four categories in dispute were won by Spanish girls! In the -44kg category, an all-Spanish final took place, with Marta BEORLEGUI OSES prevailing over Irene GARCIA SANCHEZ to claim the gold medal. Reflecting on her victory, BEORLEGUI OSES shared her sentiments and expressed her clear objectives for the season stating,
I felt incredibly good and strong throughout the tournament. I always had faith in my ability to secure the gold medal, and with each fight, I steadily progressed towards my goal. My next targets are to earn medals in the European and World Championships, especially considering my near miss last year when I finished in 5th place at the Cadet World Championship.
In this category they also told one bronze medal, by Africa PUENTE LOPEZ and in the -52kg they also took three medals, besides gold they took both bronze medal.
The male categories were more diverse. Although in the -50kg we had an all-Azerbaijan final, all the others categories were incredibly well disputed showing that you can find great judo anywhere in the world. Nine countries got their place in the podium and no one got more than three medals!
After being bronze in the Italian National Championship, Samuele CANOVA approached the Coimbra Cadet European Cup with a resolute determination to make his mark on the international stage. His efforts were not in vain, as he emerged triumphant, capturing the gold medal by defeating French judoka Johnny OZMANYAN in the -55kg final.
Expressing his elation with the result, Canova remarked,
I am really happy with this. I had unwavering confidence and a strong determination to win, as this medal held great significance for me. My next objective is to reach the podium in the European Championship also here in Portugal next month.
